The Situation
The legal network handled sensitive client files across many offices. Broad internal access and shared accounts meant a single stolen login could reach far too much data.

What Made The Situation Difficult.
Most staff connected through a legacy VPN that granted wide network access once a user was inside. Partners, contractors and remote lawyers often shared accounts to save time, and devices were rarely checked before connecting. The firm wanted stronger protection for client data but could not afford disruption to billable work or court deadlines.
1. Flat network access
A single VPN login opened access to most internal systems.
2. Shared accounts
Several teams used shared credentials with no clear owner.
3. Unchecked devices
Personal and unmanaged laptops connected without health checks.
A phased plan instead of a giant transformation.
Cybevra designed a practical zero trust roadmap that changed access step by step. High-value systems were protected first, so lawyers kept working normally while risky access paths were removed in phases.
01. Verify every identity
Replaced shared accounts with named identities, enforced strong multi-factor sign-in and linked each user to the matters they actually worked on, so access always matched their own real, day-to-day legal work.
02. Check device trust
Required managed, healthy devices for access to client files, with clear guidance for remote lawyers and contractors joining from other office locations, so unknown laptops could no longer reach any sensitive data.
03. Segment sensitive data
Replaced flat VPN access with application-level policies, removing 27 risky access paths while keeping daily legal work fast and familiar for every partner, associate, paralegal and business support team member.
